Home Care Options for Seniors in Rochester, NY
It’s been an interesting start to the year. Maybe you are looking at 2016 as being far better than last year, but immediately you’ve realized that your aging father requires support and assistance at home. Maybe he was hospitalized recently and now that he’s set to be discharged, you’re looking at all options.
One of the most common options people consider is taking care of their aging loved ones themselves. This may seem practical and it can certainly feel as though you’re going to save a lot of money in the process, but there are actually a number of great reasons why professional and experienced home care is a much better option.
Here are three of those reasons to consider:
Reason #1: Staying active is important for seniors.
As your father has been having difficulty with some aspects of his basic care, you may feel safety is the biggest priority. It certainly is a top priority, but that doesn’t mean he has to stop doing things he enjoys.
An experienced caregiver understands the value of staying active, getting exercise, and even spending time with friends and other loved ones. A common default among family members providing this type of care is to discourage strenuous activities or other activities that can be deemed a bit too dangerous.
Reason #2: It allows you to focus on the relationship.
When you’re a caregiver for somebody, the priority is keeping them safe, doing work around the house to help them out, and more. However, when you rely on professional home care services, the focus for you will be on the relationship itself. This can help you avoid any negative problems, such as arguments and disputes that can escalate quickly.
Reason #3: Promoting good health and well-being.
Unless your career has involved helping others eat right, get exercise, and stay as healthy as possible, you may not have the kind of experience necessary to actually help your elderly father in the best way possible. An experienced home care aide can encourage your father to exercise, follow doctor’s orders, and eat a healthy diet.
Home care providers can help with meal planning and preparation, provide transportation, companionship, play games, and much more. That can all be incredibly beneficial as the years march on.
So if you’ve been thinking about becoming a caregiver for your elderly father or other family member, first consider all of the benefits of professional and experienced home care.

Kevin and his wife, Candy, lived in Naples, Florida for 10 years, where three of their four children were born. He was recruited to the insurance industry by a colleague who felt his personality would benefit people with needs. The insurance industry became a big part of their lives. He evaluated peoples’ risks, working with property and casualty, and life products, and later began to underwrite Long Term Care insurance as people were beginning to plan for their futures. He started two agencies, then bought a third. In his last three years before selling his third agency, he was ranked in the top 10%, top 5% & then top 1% nationally out of the more than 12,500 Allstate agencies in the U.S. at the time. Kevin’s success can be accredited to his kind nature and his genuine desire to help individuals and families with their needs. He feels very at home meeting with people and discussing their needs, a trait that has been very helpful in his continued success with Caring Hearts of Rochester. Kevin returned to Rochester in 2006 to introduce their young children to snow and to be closer to his extended family.
After having returned to Rochester from their careers in other states, John and Kevin reconnected. Alzheimer’s had afflicted both of their families, and they had both experienced and witnessed the challenges associated with the role of being a caregiver. Kevin’s and John’s collective experiences complemented their desire to work with families and individuals in need. They founded Caring Hearts of Rochester and have since been able work in a capacity that has become a passion for them. They are both Certified Senior Advisors (CSA), a designation earned through education, study and experience in the Elderly and Geriatric Care Profession. Their number one concern is providing their senior clients with ethical and effective services and products. Caring Hearts of Rochester is associated with numerous local affiliations for the elderly in the Upstate NY area including Lifespan, Eldersource, and the Greater Rochester Area Partnership for the Elderly.
